YO YO YO, I'm back with me bloggies for the year, topic music. Musical Theather night is coming up in term 2, that's something I'm looking forward to :). I've decided to 2 musical solos to perform for the night, then for the other solos, I'm thinking about making them some pop songs or something later on in the year.
First solo; I can hear the bells - Hairspray ~
A little bit about it:
In 1960s Baltimore, dance-loving teen Tracy Turnblad (Nikki Blonsky) auditions for a spot on "The Corny Collins Show" and wins. She becomes an overnight celebrity, a trendsetter in dance, fun and fashion. Perhaps her new status as a teen sensation is enough to topple Corny's reigning dance queen and bring racial integration to the show.
My scene:
The scene I'll be performing is about Tracy bumping into this hot guy (Link) from her favour tv show " The Corny Collins Show' in which he happens to go to the same school as her. When he bumps into her she has this vision and dream and is really love-struck, shes talking to her Best friend Penny in this scene and makes use of people around her.
How will I perform this: My aim for this is to have the dialogue of him (Link) and I bump into each other on stage, he says his dialogue then me love struck in the middle of the stage, he leaves, Penny enters .... she says her dialogue then the song will begin. How'll play Tracy in this scene is acting love stuck , and determined that I will win Links, heart.
Second Solo; Nothings gonna harm you - Sweeney Todd~
A little bit about it:
Evil Judge Turpin (Alan Rickman) lusts for the beautiful wife of a London barber (Johnny Depp) and transports him to Australia for a crime he did not commit. Returning after 15 years and calling himself Sweeney Todd, the now-mad man vows revenge, applying his razor to unlucky customers and shuttling the bodies down to Mrs Lovett (Helena Bonham Carter), who uses them in her meat-pie shop. Though many falls to his blade, he will not be satisfied until he slits Turpin's throat.
My scene:
The scene I'll be performing is me being the kid named Tobias (referred to as toby) ( toby is abused by Turpin, till Turpin gets murdered then Toby lives with Todd and Mrs Lovvett) and he tries talking to Mrs Lovett about if someone hurts her such as Mr Todd then he'll get rid of him because Toby has suspicions about Todd being a bad guy and looks to Mrs Lovett to be a mother figure to him. In this song, he basically sings about he'll willing to do anything so that Mr Lovett isn't hurt.
How will I perform this:
There will be dialogue, setting: Me and the person that will play Mr Lovett in my scene we will be sitting on a couch at first, then towards the middle, there is dialogue where I and Lovett will stand up move to a different area. sing some more, then she will comfort me to the couch where she will hug and hold me ( more singing in this bit). How I'll portray Toby is being a small little boy vibe where they will try and be the man of the house even though he is young, have the determined to do anything in the world kinda vibe.
What is the song you have chosen to perform?: I've decided to choose the song 'Johanna' from the movie Sweeney Todd.
Why did you choose this material?: I've always liked Sweeney Todd and I love romance stories so I thought it would be a cool song to sing, plus I like that scene.
Who wrote and performed the piece?:Stephen Sondheim wrote the song and Jamie Cambell Bower sang it.
What is the song about?: About this boy that fell in love with this beautiful blonde girl from the apartment building, and he sings about stealing her from the Judge that's keeping her away from people.
What is happening in the story at the time of your piece?: This teenage boy is attracted by this beautiful blonde yellow-haired girl named Johanna who lives in a very high building with this evil guy named 'Judge Turpin', he spots this girl from a window from her bedroom and wants to talk to her and hang out with her. He slowly finds out that Judge Turpin locked her in the room to keep her away from the world so every day Anthony walks past the building, trying to figure out ways to save her and steal her from the judge.
What will be challenging about your piece: I have to sing from low to high in some bits because sometimes I sing lower to his level ( because I'm playing a guy, and I'm not a guy in real life so I don't have that much of a deep voice). Another challenge would have to be to keep practising to get it right but that's okay , I know I'll get there in the end :)
Who's in the group?: Nadia, Sam, Bre (Brianna), and Me
What each person is doing?: Lows, Normal, Highs, and normal ( in name order at the previous question)
What song, genre?: "I want it that way", Pop
What part are we working on first?: How we first came up to do this song is simply because we were messing around singing karaoke tracks. Originally we were going to sing Lovely by Billie Eilish and Khalid ( that's now our plan B) but since 'I want it that way' has different singing parts to equally divide between 4 we chose that. So the first 4 weeks we were slowly singing parts and collectively improving it while we sing. We went from soundtrack to piano, now we are just singing it and perfecting it.
What is the biggest challenge?: I guess for me it would be timing and how to stay in key and learn to make my voice soft but loud. ( but not too soft)
There is a clear connection to drugs in the ‘Jessica’ PSA ad that talks about a teenage girl named Jessica that is addicted to meth and her story. This is shown by the use of lighting in this ad, showing that Jessica’s life went from happy, joyful, energetic to dark, and shows the addiction she now has and how it’s impacted her life and others. This is demonstrated when it went from her on the cheer squad with the crowds cheering for her to then getting gradually worse over time. The director's purpose is to show the audience that meth or any type of drug can mess up your life and break close relationships with people. This situation reminds me of all the stories or movies that show the theme that drugs will mess up your life and how overall will mess up your future.
To continue on with my last post, you know that my English class were studying Film techniques and analysing them. The end result ended up with a close-viewing assessment where you can write, show, and tell about any trailer, movie, something visual where it includes filming techniques. I chose to present my work as an essay, the movie I studied was What's Eating Gilbert Grape.
Here is my first slide braking apart the techniques that I'll talk about it and underneath will be the essay. Enjoy :)))
Recently in English, we have been studying film techniques. We have done really well studying it BUT since now we are in lockdown it's up to us to try and understand what to and do the work.
For this task, it's group work. What it's about is to work with a partner to analyze film trailers and find out what is the film techniques and doing SEXXXY paragraphs about it :). My partner was Kaiden, I felt that him and I worked really well, we helped each other out so yes :) ( Meagan also did an oopsie in this tho ;( )
